Jed the St. Bernard Dog

"Jed," age 2 (watercolor - click on image to enlarge)

As I came out of my favorite French bakery last week, I saw this sweet dog resting by his owner's feet, soaking up some rays. His name is Jed and he is two years old. He is one huge pup!

Here is again, using colored pencil:

Jed is going to be a hand-full. I like the watercolour version.

Great job on these. I really enjoy the playful colorful one. You really caught the soulfulness of his eyes.

Yes, Owen, I'll bet Jed's owner will have his hands full with this one! And thank you!

Deborah, thanks! His eyes were so sweet in real life, I'm glad I was able to capture a bit of their essence.

My daughter used to have a St Bernard, and he had that appealing 'look' you've captured so well -- consequently they were often approached when he took the family out for a walk. And about half the people who wanted to talk to them mentioned they used to have a St Bernard (the operative term being 'used to have.'

BTW, meant to comment on you lovely little birds yesterday. What a great idea, to prepare yourself for the impossible task of sketching something that won't sit still, by practicing really quick drawings. Once you realize it can be done, it's much easier!

Charlene, I love how you said your daughter's St. Bernard took the family out for a walk! I'm sure they were an attraction wherever they went.

Thank you for your kind words about the bird drawings. I find I really enjoy quick skeches, the quicker the better!
